NEW
in the Professional Development section:
We know that many of you are working hard to
help move teachers and other staff towards securing their
AA and BA degrees. As a result of culminating a project with
the MSHSQIC and Telamon Tennessee we think we have a good
resource that will work for some of your staff. If you have
staff who have the CDA but not taken it through a college
so that college credit was not offered, if you have fluent
Spanish-speaking staff who are willing to take the CLEP test
to receive college credit for their speaking and writing abilities,
if you have staff with a foreign degree that is not acknowledged,
the Troy State University Montgomery program may be for you
or your staff.
In collaboration
with Troy State University Montgomery, Telamon Tennessee,
the MSHSQIC and AED’s Director of Knowledge Management,
a booklet entitled “Program Guide for Head Start Staff
Development Specialists: Associate of Science, Bachelors of
Arts/Science Degrees in General Education Troy State University
Montgomery External Degree Program” and an accompanying
pamphlet have been developed for distribution to all MSHS
grantees. It has been sent to all programs and is available
here to download. Click

NEW
Transportation Safety Education Curriculum!
We
are thrilled to make available EPIC’s Transportation
Safety Education Curriculum (click
here to download) in both English and Spanish. The curriculum
has been designed and used for the past 2 years by several
MSHS grantees and they report that children, parents and teachers
love it. Not only that, this curriculum when implemented,
meets the requirements of 45 CFR 1310.21 (safety education).
A hard copy is being sent out to all migrant and seasonal
Head Start grantees (over 34,000 children served).
Many thanks
to Tina Heily, EPIC Education Coordinator, Sharon Sumpter,
EPIC Early Childhood Services Director and the EPIC transportation
teams for developing, piloting and most especially for sharing
this curriculum with the Head Start community. They worked
very hard on this project and we are very appreciative of
their efforts and their dedication to our mission to provide
the safest transportation possible for our youngest travelers.
In addition, thanks to Nancy Netherland from the MSHSQIC who
became my first stop for indepth knowledge on the transportation
regulations and a facilitator for the migrant and seasonal
Head Start transportation work group.
Please
notice that the curriculum is copyrighted, yet it will remain
free of charge for use by Head Start grantees.
